Oil Filter Discussions | | | | I'm not a car person! | | I'm not a car person, so I have a big question, that I am hoping someone can answer. Do you know how often you're supposed to change your oil for your car or truck. Ordinarily it's something that my spouse would take care of, but lately, I've been trying to be more involved. And, now that we have a truck, I think the time between oil changes might actually be different than it was for our other car. Do you think that it's better to change your own oil for your automobile or let a professional do it? Does it save money if you do the job yourself? Could you please recommend a good place to take a truck to have oil changed? Thanks for the suggestions.
| | Unnecessary repairs recommended by the body shop | | Do you get that a lot? When you try to get an oil change service from one of your nearby auto shop, after the oil change service done, the mechanic would strongly recommend you to do this service, and that service. Some of those services are quite expensive, at least $500 fork over before you can take your car home. Once a mechanic wanted me to do the transmission service, and the timing belt altogether. But I remember that I done my timing belt service somewhere else just a few months ago. Now, I have to do it again? Sorry, I don't have that much money to waste. A replacement of oil filter might be justified from his demand. Did you get that a lot? | |
| | Doing your own oil change | | One way to save money is to do your own oil change. This is something that I've been doing for years. I usually do my own oil changes in the spring and summer months, during fall and winter it's too cold so I take the car in to a shop. Today I went into Autozone to get the oil filter and oil and I noticed they started carrying their own store brand of oil and it's a lot cheaper. I figured I'd give it a shot if I don't like it's only 3,000 miles until I do another oil change. If anyone else changes their own oil what oil do you use and recommend? Have you tried autozones brand before? | |
| | Mean employers | | How many times have you realized that you were really just not working out in the job that you were in because your employers were mean? My friend is working at a regular 9-5 job and he is very upset with his employers. Either they don't pay him enough for what he does, or they are always writing him up for stupid things; example he is a mechanic and he left an oil filter which was still packaged out on the desk to help a customer. How ridiculous is that. He actually got a real write up for that. So how many of you are in the same boat with him. He's realizing that he is being singled out at work because some of the other mechanics there do the same stuff and some worse, and he is the one who gets written up for it. Do you ever feel like your being singled out by your employer and wish for a new one, with same or better pay. Let me know and I will be sure to let him see. | |
| | My CRX SiR Green, Manual | | i recently added some 17inch rims from Vision 5 spoke and i can say they look damn sexy. i need to do some small maintenance like changing oil filter, changing the oil, new air filter, and was wondering if anyone knew how to bolt on mufflers for it? | |
| | Do you do any of your own auto maintenance? | | I have a 2000 Kia that gets great mileage. I resent the prices we now must pay for gasoline so I will continue to drive my Kia. It used to be so easy to do most of the mainetance on one's car before all the new electronic equipment. Even changing the sparkplugs isn't as easy as it used to be. Trying to find the oil filter under the new cars is a feat in itself. I used to know how to do so much of my own auto maintenance but now I am having to relearn. This weekend I had a friend show me how to change the sparkplugs since it was more technical than it used to be. He even showed me how to clean out the CPV valve so I would get better mileage. About the only simple thing to do was change the air filter. The tires haven't change other than the price for a new set.I paid off my car this month and I am on a mission to see that everything is in perfect running order so I can drive this car for many years to come. That may not be a problem if the gas prices get too much higher....I won't be able to afford to drive it then. LOLTell me what your plans are..... | |
| | Do you have ideas on how to stop oil prices from raising | | I have a few. #1 help save gas.(car pool, air up tires, stop oil leaks, don`t change oil every 3000 to 5000 mi,change oil filter only, then fill it back up with a good oil stsbilizer, you can get another 3000 mi ouy of your oil before a oil change.this wiil save you money and oil.) #2 go to energy saver light bulbs in your house.
#3 everything thats plastic is made from oil. so do not buy plastic products.use glass and paper, metal, wood,
I know this will be hard cause everything around us is made of plastic, but thats whats wrong,we need to change that.for many years to come. That may not be a problem if the gas prices get too much higher....I won't be able to afford to drive it then. LOLTell me what your plans are.....
